Scrybe: Initial Thoughts
I just got an invitation to open a Scrybe™ account. Like all recent web applications, Scrybe offers beta testing on a sign-up basis.
It was a while ago when I saw the video demo of Scrybe and I was so awed by it then I went straight to sign up for beta-testing. I have totally forgotten all about the beta-testing till I saw the invite. A pleasant surprise.
Scrybe is a online organizer that is built on the Flash Platform and offers OfflineSync™ capabilities. What that means is that the application allows you to use it offline within your browser without having to install anything and having offline changes sync automatically when you go back online.
After playing with it for a while, I find that the interface is pretty intuitive and user-friendly. I am able to fiddle around and explore the various functionalities without much difficulties. Everything was self-explanatory.
There are several nice touches like the timezone support which shows you the time of your meeting around the globe. Nothing is simpler and more straightforward than dragging things around to change the timing or length of your events.
One thing that irks me is that on a mac, the mousewheel scrolling is not supported the flash-based scrollbars in the application. This should be quite easily implemented using pixelbreaker‘s SWFMacMouseWheel. It is an awesome add-on and Mac-users would like their mouse scrolling to work too.
Apart from this little slight oversight and the hype, Scrybe does not disappoint. It is definitely a web application to look out for. The offline support is a boon for the road warriors out there. According to the site, I should be able to invite users to try by sharing my calendar or to-do list (although I have not figured out how to do that yet).
Drop me a comment if you would like an invite and I will see what I can do.
