Buzzwords 2.0
There is just simply too much hype over buzzwords.
I will cringe whenever i come across content using buzzwords or people casually using them in conversations to impress the audience. Has anyone checked out the latest Web 2.0 Logo Creator ? Key in the buzzword, slap on a “beta” tag and unveil the latest Web 2.0 killer app.
These days everything seems to be 2.0 for some obscure reasons. It is as though with a numeric versioning behind a keyword, the subject matter automatically qualifies to be the champion of the big wave or the next undiscovered gem of the web. Well if it is up to me, they should be banished to The Nine Circles of Buzzword Hell.
To be fair, not every article with buzzwords is overhyped. Troy Young talks about Media 2.0 over at UX Magazine and I do agree with him. Over the past year, there is a significant change in the model of web applications or websites, shifting from being content-centric to platform-centric. The success of popular websites such as Flickr, del.icio.us and YouTube stems from the web platform that drives the respective services.
The common principle is to develop a platform that provides a useful service to the web community and subsequently empowering the community to generate content. The service then aggregates the user-generated content and further leverages on the community to drive itself.
In my opinion, it is this shift in the model is basically the heart and core of the now infamous buzzword Web 2.0.

rofl well done sir...nice 2.0 presentation rant
. Seriously it can get out of control with betas, and 2.0. My buddy is working on this online community site which has been under 5 betas if they were counting and the new release would be 5.0...but instead of all the bs they just kept focusing on making it better and not worried about what version it was..afterall its a website not a software version
. Good read.
